Bedroom Goes from Tween to Teen

Challenges

My client’s 15-year-old daughter had just started high school, but felt like her bedroom was still in grade school. She wanted a bigger bed and a vanity for doing her hair and makeup — and she wanted her friends to feel comfortable hanging out in her room.

Solutions

  • Made the room appear larger by adding wallpaper in a trendy, floral design to one wall

  • Upgraded the bed from a twin to a full with an upholstered headboard

  • Selected comfy bedding that complements the wallpaper design

  • Switched the bedside lighting to a sconce style, which freed up surface space on the new nightstands

  • Chose a fun and feminine ceiling light to brighten the room

  • Added an L-shaped desk for dual functionality — it added vanity space as well as a place to do homework

Result

My client’s daughter loves her room! She’s able to do her hair and makeup in her bedroom, study, and have friends over.
